Overview
The Kashmir Valley a fertile, verdant region enclosed by the high snow capped ridges of the Pir Panjal range to the west and south, and the main Himalayan range to the east is one of the most beautiful regions of India. Srinagar, the summer capital of Kashmir, stands on Dal Lake and the picturesque Jhelum River. Among Kashmir’s greatest attractions are the houseboats on the Dal Lake. The lake itself is alive with the locals selling their wares from flowers, vegetables to handicrafts and even drinks and barbeque skewers of fragrant kebabs. The waterways are used by the local people to go about their daily chores. There are large tracts of incredibly beautiful pink lotuses and the smaller variety of white and yellow lotuses adding to the charm of the lake.
